Reflection: As an educator in Iowa, I turn to the Iowa Core Standards when planning quality instruction and assessment. For example, RI.1.9 ask students to identify similarities and differences between two texts on similar topics. The e-book that I created in C&T 840 provided an opportunity for students to explore my e-book as well as, print books. Students practiced many literacy skills. One example being, comparing and contrasting information between multiple texts.
“Text is just ink on a page until a reader comes along and gives it life.” Louise Rosenblatt
Reflection: Iowa Core Standards guide my instruction. This artifact is a unit I designed for my 1st grade classroom. I learned the importance of teaching comprehension through explicit models, classroom supports, and the importance of students using comprehension strategies interchangeably and automatically.
